VIN Tag 101

The purpose of this page is a very brief overview on decoding
Mother Mopar's data plates that are (supposed)
to be found on the Drivers side under the hood of your
car.
Here is an example (from one of my Darts).
You read them from the bottom, left to right.
Here we go...............
Line 1:
E55 = Engine: 340-4Bbl
D13 = Transmission: A230 3 speed manual, floor shift
LM23 = Dart, Medium price range/performance, 2 door hardtop
H0R = 340-4Bbl, 1970, Windsor,Ontario,Canada plant
129735 = Actual consecutive serial number
Line 2:
FJ5 = lower body paint color: Sublime or Limelight
L2X9 = seats: low price, all vinyl bench seat, black
TX9 = Interior trim color: black
923 = build date: September 23,1969
028960 = order number
Line 3:
FJ5 = roof paint color: Sublime or Limelight (Note, if vinyl top this will read V1X for black,V1Y for yellow,
V1F for green, V1W for white etc.or blank on convertibles)
= blank or 000 on most cars
J45 = hood pins
M26 = wheel lip mouldings
M43 = grille surround mouldings
N41 = dual exhaust
Line 4:
N42 = exhaust tips
R11 = radio: AM
V21 = hood performance tape package
V8X = rear body sport stripe: black ( W = white , R = red )
Y05 = build for USA
END = end of body tags and/or shift car was built on
( EN1 first shift, EN2 second shift, END third shift, or CTD for conntinued on next tag)
Line 5:
not used on this car
Line 6:
not used on this car
You can also get this info from one of your "Build Sheets"
