The big day:
January 7,1995 for $450.00............Sassy comes home to live with us:
107537 miles on her and She was in sad shape mechanically....
No 3rd or reverse, oil spitting out of the dipstick tube ( busted rings ),
brakes just about gone, front end worn slap out, but the body was great and the interior pretty good !!
Sassy's Info:
The following are options on the car that are not listed on the fender tag:
B11, C13, G31, G41, H11, H31, J11, J31, J41, J55, J64, L05, L06, L11, L15, L25, L65, N45,
N51, S31, S77, S79, W11
AND a Dealer installed trailer hitch
In addition to this, she is the only 1970 GT we have found with GT emblems
on the inside of the doors, trunk lid, and hood.
Since we bought her, we have added the following factory options that we would have
ordered if we had bought her new:
C21 = buddy seat, B51 = Power assist brakes, F96 = oil pressure gauge, N88 = cruise control,
P45 = power trunk release, W21 = Rallye wheels 14"
The engine that didn't go into her...
This motor was a 1963 engine, built for a circle track car and supposedly a 240 HP slant 6. I bought it in Florida and
carried it with us for several years. When we went to put it in, we found out that the 1963 crank wouldn't bolt
up to the 1970 style 904 transmission ! Big bummer....we sold this motor for $350.00.
123327 miles July 12, 1996 Take 2........we bought this rebuilt 1977 Super 6 for $350.00.
It had about 19,000 miles on the rebuild and was still in the Volare' SW and we drove it home.
We put in a windage tray and gasket set, put on some fresh paint, and in it went.
New engine, front end, brakes, and tranny......
Off we go to Sassy's 1st car show......at the Sultan ,Wa. Shindig Celebration July of 1996
It started with a parade through town. We set it up so we had all the Dart GT's in a row;
a 1967, 1968, 1969, and 1970 (Sassy). It was really cool. She got a great response from everyone.
123333 miles July ??, 1996 the caravan to NC gets ready to move out:
Me driving the Budget truck with my 1972 Swinger in tow,
Mel in Sassy with Max cat and her Lil' red trailer full of 2000 lbs of Dart parts, and Mom in her Escort SW.
Max cat ready to hit the road.....
July ??, 1996 Welcome to North Carolina.......YE-HAH 10 mile long traffic jam, Sassy overheating, Mel flipping out,
BUT, were almost to our new home. Good job Sassy !!
As seen at the 1997 Mighty Mopars of Western NC's "Mopars in May" show
May 3, 1997 in Black Mountain, NC
She came in 2nd in the "A-body stock 1970 and up" class
1st and 3rd were won by Duster 340's
She was 1 of only 3 slant 6 cars to even place in the show !!
The Glory Days end
136405 miles June 27,1997.......A Mitsubishi Mirage S decides to make a left turn in front of me.
NO way to avoid it.
Oh well........$3500.00 damage to the Mirage, $1500.00 to Sassy ( Police Estimate).
If once was good......Twice must be better......NOT !!!
136430 miles July 10,1997.....on the way to get an estimate from a body shop,
Another yo-yo decides to pull in front of me !!
This time Sassy eats a Honda Accord's nose. $150.00 damage to the Honda, $500.00 more to Sassy.
Oh Yeah.....Her new licence plate finally came in on December 15, 1997
.
Rebuilding begins
If you have ever had anything to do with putting a 28 year old car back together,
I don't need to say any more. For those that haven't....the parts hunt began.
I won't go into details here, but we now have all the parts to not only put her back together .....
But to also restore her!! Now, if I could only get the time !!
Back on the road again !!
136545 miles November 10, 1998 All of our "new" cars have croaked !! Sassy to the rescue.
Had to slap a nose on her and put her back into service for a while. It will all have to come back
off for the restoration, but it is great to see her back on the road !!
